About this piece

"Bar Harbor" is a large original watercolor by upstate New York artist Sherry H. Holmes, depicting a rocky coastal shoreline with blue-gray ocean waves breaking against massive reddish-brown and gray foreground boulders.

Holmes uses transparent washes, cool coastal blues, muted earth tones, and softened atmospheric transitions to convey the movement of the surf and the hazy character of the distant shoreline. The broad foreground rocks give the composition substantial visual weight, while the open water and pale sky create depth and balance.

One of the larger works in this documented group from Holmes’s personal collection, Bar Harbor has notably strong wall presence.

The watercolor is signed “S. HOLMES” at lower left and titled “Bar Harbor” on the verso. Original artist information on the reverse connects the work directly to Holmes and Barrack Zourie Studio in Cobleskill, New York.

Presented in its existing frame.
